One of the largest pet accommodation and exercise runs in the country Kennels The three kennel blocks are purpose built and all undercover for the comfort of animals and staff. There is good air flow and fans in place for summer. Electric lighting in kennel blocks and at the entrances of exercise yards. All kennels are larger than required for accreditation and all have raised wooden night boxes with run attached. These runs have plywood sides with wire on the upper side to give each resident some privacy and stop dogs urinating into the next pen. Exercise areas (9 in total) are all large, enclosed by 7 feet high fences made of the lower part tin, upper part wire. All exercise areas have concrete runners so dogs cannot dig out. There are 60 plus pens, large enough for two dogs from the same family plus four extra large pens for giant breeds or families of dogs. Cosy Cottage is two separate rooms for small companion dogs, two court yards and two grassed areas. Isolation pens are completely separate from the kennel block and have there own exercise paddock. There is a grooming room with 18 pens used whilst grooming. This room also caters for special needs dogs. This room has a hydro bath and a grooming table with a hydraulic lift and could be used as a whelping room. It is secure and has a shingle yard attached to keep dogs clean while they toilet. Opposite the house is a building housing the animal kitchen where animal food preparation takes place. There is a good work bench, sink, hot and cold water, washing machine, dryer, fridge, some food storage, shelves for bedding and towels etc. This building houses the grooming room and a public toilet wheelchair accessible. The west side of this L shaped building has four garage doors, with room for vehicles and work shop. One side has four catteries. The whole building has a concrete floor, fibre board weather board walls and an iron roof with sky lights. Cattery The main cattery block has four exercise areas and 29 individual pens each large enough for a bed, litter tray, food and water dishes and room for the cat to walk around. Two of these pens are extra large. Each pen has access to the exercise area, however each cat is returned to it's own pen every night. The floor in the cattery and exercise area is impervious non slip concrete. There are also four free standing catteries for multi cat families and another is used for isolation with 8 pens. Other Pets We have two large cages for rabbits and extra bird cages. Gardens The facility has attractive gardens with mature trees, including fruit trees; Orange, manderine, lemon, fejoas, and grapes. The drive way is curbed and has room for turning. Freehold Premises

Hours 8am – 10.30am + 4pm to 6pm or by appointment Staff Menagerie is presently run by Husband and wife, Gordon and Pauline with the help of one casual; on call staff, also occasionally volunteers who need experience with animals. Menagerie is 20mins drive south of Whakatane, a few mins from, Awakeri and Edgecumbe where there is grocery shopping, fuel, hairdressing, florist etc. Close by is Awakeri Hot Springs and Holiday Park. Kawerau is 10 mins drive away. Whakatane is a beautiful seaside town with very high sunshine hours ,mild weather and many attractions including fishing and many multisport events. White Island the live Volcano is a popular with visitors. Whakatane (population 15,000) is the major service and administrative centre for the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
