Ecocruz: The best way to experience the Bay
"Highly recommended"- Lonely Planet 2006 Founded in 2000, Ecocruz is currently the only scheduled Overnight Sailing Cruise in the Bay of Islands. It is a 3 day/2 night cruise departing twice a week between October and May. The emphasis lies on the appreciation of the marine environment by means of a range of outdoor activities such as sailing, kayaking, snorkeling and walking. Aimed at the independent traveler market, our cruises are suitable for all ages and are popular with people looking to experience the Bay in a personal, down to earth atmosphere.
Products / Services
The boat is fully equipped with seven sea kayaks, wetsuits, snorkeling and fishing gear, a reference library as well as a support vessel to give passengers the opportunity to fully explore and experience the Maritime Park.
Trips depart every Tuesday and Friday between October and May and passenger numbers are limited to 10 to ensure a personal atmosphere and a quality experience. Accommodation is in double cabins or four-share bunk rooms.
The cost of these trips starts at $595.00 per person in a dorm bed and $675.00 per person in a double cabin.
Ecocruz operates for seven months of the year and is organized to be a two-three person operation. It generates good cash flow and has been growing steadily with realistic growth potential.

The Boat
The Manawanui is a 72 ft, 1981, John Pugh, steel ketch. She is in current Safe ship Management and surveyed for 35 day and 16 overnight passengers. She can sleep 19 people in six cabins. She is fully equipped with a recent sail wardrobe, a full set of electronics and a 4.1 m RIB carried on davitts. There are too many items to list here. Please contact us for full specs.

Ecocruz is set up as a lifestyle business providing enjoyable work in summer and sufficient time off in winter. However, there are opportunituies for winter work in the Bay of Islands as well as off shore.

About Paihia
Situated in the mild far north of New Zealand, Paihia is the touristic centre of the Bay of Islands. The town is popular with both domestic and international tourists and enjoys a busy period of about seven months. It's a small, friendly place with about 10,000 inhabitants.
