Woodville

Woodville is the eastern gateway to the Manawatu Gorge, which runs between the Tararua and Ruahine Ranges. Central Power's Tararua Wind Farm, currently the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, sits high above the Gorge.

In recent years, Woodville has become well known for galleries and shops specialising in antiques and crafts. The famous artist Gottfried Lindauer lived in Woodville from 1889 to 1926 and a replica studio has been built in the main street in commemoration of his work. Woodville also has its own community radio station - 'Radio Woodville, The Voice of the Tararua'.

The area around Woodville is well known for its excellent fishing, hunting and tramping. At nearby Ballance are Clydesdale Wagon Rides, horse trekking, various other activities and attractions and beautiful bush walks.

The city of Palmerston North, with a wide range of shopping and dining facilities, Massey University, a polytechnic, and an international airport is just 20 minutes drive away. Dannevirke is a similar distance and it is about 2 hours to Napier, the art deco centre of the New Zealand. Napier, Hastings and the Hawkes Bay have some of the country's best vineyards and orchards.
