Freehold Tavern & Motels Business For Sale
Punakaiki, West Coast, New Zealand

Tavern with restaurant, motels and owners residence

Punakaiki is near the mid-point of the "Coast Road", the highway along the West Coast of the South Island that has been described by Lonely Planet as being "one of the top 10 coastal drives in the world".

Punakaiki is best known for its Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. The Pancake Rocks jut out into the sea and are made of columns of limestone resembling stacks of pancakes. At high tide and with a heavy swell running, seawater is forced upwards through blowholes making great booming noises and vast plumes of spray, both of which are spectacular.

Over 250,000 visitors come to the Punakaiki area each year to see the Pancake Rocks. Most stop at the village of Punakaiki, about 1 km north of the blowholes.

The Punakaiki Tavern is located in the heart of the village and provides the perfect halfway rest stop between Westport and Greymouth. The Tavern has a warm and relaxing atmosphere and offers quality friendly service:

Punakaiki and the West Coast

Punakaiki is the gateway to the dramatic limestone country of the Paparoa National Park. Punakaiki Village has a Department of Conservation visitor centre, café and tearooms, and craft shop. Local crafts people make jewellery, stone, wood and bone carvings, paintings and pottery. The Village also has upmarket apartments, bed & breakfasts, self-catering motel units, a campervan and camping ground, and a backpackers accommodation.

The Paparoa National Park was established in 1987 and covers 30,000 hectares of wild land in northern Westland. Limestone underlies most of the Park and it is responsible for the area's amazing landforms - high coastal cliffs, impressive river gorges, caves and the Pancake Rocks coastal formations. The Park also offers luxuriant coastal forest and an absolutely spectacular coastline.

Punakaiki is 44 km north of Greymouth and 57 km south of Westport. Both towns offer a good shopping, health services, schools, airports and rail services.
