Dargaville, New Zealand

Motel Hobsons Choice business Dargaville private sale

Best and newest motel in Dargaville

Dargaville is the commercial heart of the Kauri Coast, a unique and historic part of New Zealand that extends up the West Coast from the Kaipara Harbour.

Dargaville is only two and a half hours drive north west of Auckland and, in recent years, the town has become a significant tourist destination.

The Kauri Coast is very much an untouched and unspoiled recreational paradise that enjoys a barmy subtropical climate. The area offers something for everyone, from great surf fishing, horse trekking, quad bike tours to golf, gardens, and historic museums. Dargaville

Dargaville is the largest town on the Kauri Coast (population 4,800) is situated on the west coast of Northland, just 2.5 hours north of Auckland and 45 minutes from Whangarei. Dargaville is the main service centre for the "Kauri Coast" and part of the Twin Coast Discovery Highway. It is famous as New Zealand's Kumara Capital. While kumara growing is a significant part of the local economy, beef, sheep and dairy industries also contribute. Forestry plantings, and the growing of onions, squash, pumpkin, watermelon are also features of the area.

Dargaville is an ideal base for visitors wanting to explore the magnificent and unspoiled surroundings of the "winterless" West Coast. There is an excellent local Maritime Museum, giant kauri trees at Waipoua Forest, the award-winning Matakohe Kauri Museum, artists and wood-turner studios, magnificent beach and harbour fishing, horse treks and adventure sports to suit all tastes. The nearby Northern Wairoa Golf Course offers 18 holes of challenging golf.

Dargaville was once an important river port, vital to the export of kauri timber and gum. Today the port is used for tourist day tours and fishing charters that go down the river to the Kaipara Harbour. Great surf fishing is available all along the Kauri Coast and there are trout in the cool waters of the Kai Iwi Lakes.
